Ruth was born in 1970 in Würzburg, Germany. She grew up in the small village of Unterwittighausen about one hour from Frankfurt. In 1991 she moved to the States, where she settled in the Daytona Beach area on the East coast of Florida. Professionally she has served as a graphic designer for various companies, ran a successful sign and lighting business with her husband, and since selling it she's been semi-retired and can focus on creating and teaching art in the Central Florida area.
Ruth has always been interested in drawing and painting. Throughout her teenage years she focused on pencil drawing, then moved to watercolors, to then settle on acrylics. About 25 years ago she rediscovered her old oils and has been painting in this versatile medium ever since.
Ruth is completely self-taught. Her parents exposed her to art and culture from an early age, taking vacations around Europe and visiting museums and historical sites in France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Romania, Turkey, and all over Germany.
Ruth has tried every medium and every subject matter, until finally settling on landscape painting in oils about 25 years ago. In 2008 a plein air workshop directed her to painting on location "en plein air", and the wonderful weather in Florida makes it possible for her to pursue this type of painting all year long. Additionally, Ruth loves to use her sketchbook and pen/ink with watercolor when traveling.
Currently Ruth is excited to continue offering multiple classes at the Artists Workshop in New Smyrna Beach and at the Art League of Daytona Beach. The classes encompass varied subjects such as composition, drawing, oil painting, portraits, and travel sketching. In 2026 she has also spearheaded an effort to start an official Urban Sketchers group in Volusia County.
Ruth lives in Port Orange in Central Florida with her husband.
